Dr. Wahdi Yudhi

Rector of Sampoerna University

  • Bachelor of Political Science in International Relations from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Dr. Yudhi was the Deputy Director of Program and Development as well as, Program and Marketing, for the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) from 2005 to 2009. He also served as the Education and Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra, Australia from 2001 to 2005.

Dr. Yudhi had a distinguished history of work in international education and cultural cooperation. He has worked with a lot of educational institutions in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and Australia. He continues to build Indonesian educational system through his work as Rector of Sampoerna University, which educates Indonesia’s future leaders to be globally competitive, and grows entrepreneurial leaders with a strong commitment to build local and global communities.

Al Jaeger

Vice-Rector for International and External Affairs

Al Jaeger has served 25 years in the U.S. government including positions on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, as well as on detail to the White House and the Department of State. He specialized in international affairs and summit meetings a senior staff level – including the GATT/WTO Uruguay round, Kyoto Climate Change meeting, G8 summits and ministerial meetings ranging from agriculture to higher education.

Previously, he led international outreach and development for Sampoerna University. This includes unique partnerships and student mobility programs that give our students the opportunity to study abroad. He was previously the Director of U.S. Programs for the Putera Sampoerna Foundation (PSF) and established the network of partner institutions and pathways.

Dr. Soepriyatna

Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs

Dr. Soepriyatna is a passionate educator who has experience and expertise in teacher preparation and development. Having a lot of involvement in facilitating teacher trainings, and Training-of-Trainers (ToT) for various institutions, he has developed training modules and test instruments that are transformative in nature and can bring participants into a new teaching perspective.

He was invited to publish his research on Teacher Competence in Malaysian Journal of English Language Teaching (ELT) Research, and awarded grant by ASIA TEFL (Teaching English for Foreign Language) for his research on Teacher Talk. He believes that teacher is the key factor to a more qualified education. This has brought him to join Sampoerna University that creates future leaders, a new generation of educators.

Dr. M. Gunawan Alif

Vice Rector for Administration, Resources Management, and Operations

Dr. M. Gunawan Alif’s general area of expertise lies in marketing, marketing communications, consumer behavior, corporate culture and media management. He had long experience in media and marketing communication industry. He was the Head of Team Operational III (1989 – 1997) in Matari Advertising, one of the top five advertising agencies in Indonesia, and also served as a team leader in several government projects.

He is a senior lecturer of Strategic Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC), Consumer Behavour, Strategic Brand Management and Issues & Crisis Management.  His passion in teaching has brought him to join Sampoerna University in 2013. He believes that education has an important role in building students’ leadership, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility, to be a successful entrepreneur and globally-ready individual.

Dr. Lauren E. Clarke

  • B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature, Chicano Studies from Pomona College, Claremont, California, U.S.

Dr. Lauren E. Clarke is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Sampoerna University American College and Vice Rector of General Education at Sampoerna University. Previously, she served as Dean for International Students and Global Engagement at Amherst College in Massachusetts.. She has also held senior administrative positions at World Learning, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University’s School for Advanced International Studies, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Clarke is passionate about empowering people through education and developing institutions to prepare tomorrow’s leaders. This can be witnessed from her 30 years of management experience in international education projects in the U.S. and abroad, such as Afghanistan, Bulgaria, the Central Asian Republics, Cuba, Jordan, Morocco, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Vietnam.

Dr. Yoda R. Patta

  • Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts, the U.S.
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia

Dr. Yoda has conducted multidisciplinary work as a materials scientist and engineer. She holds a patent and a license for a novel method in producing high critical current density superconducting films. Her dissertation encompassed the biodistribution of chemotherapeutics delivered via an implantable biocompatible device for the treatment of brain cancer.

Dr. Yoda had work experience as a teaching assistant during her college year. She also won the John Wulff Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008 and 2009 and the Goodwin Medal for Excellence in Teaching in 2010. Upon earning her doctorate, she became a lecturer at the MIT Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She is passionate about teaching, especially in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects and connecting those subjects with real-world examples that will allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world.

Dr. Chandra Alamsyah

Dr. Chandra began his career as an executive in a local freight forwarding company. He later spent over 23 years working at Total in Indonesia, serving in various senior positions dealing with oil and gas operations, as well as project coordination activities. During his service in the company, he was actively involved in various national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops related to oil and gas as  a speaker, chairman or core delegate.

Dr. Chandra is now dedicating his time to teaching and learning activities in higher education. He has served as Academic Director at IPMI Business School in Jakarta, and appointed as Dean of Faculty of Business at Sampoerna University in June 2014. He continues to build cooperations and partnerships with national and international institutions, widening the network for Sampoerna University’s students and future business leaders in Indonesia.

Dr. Soepriyatna

Dr. Marshall Schott

Chief Academic Officer of Sampoerna Schools System

  • Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science (double major) from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, U.S.

Having been the chair of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education Advisory Committee at the Greater Houston Partnership’s Regional Workforce Development Task Force since 2012, Dr. Schott is the champion of STEM education and the 21st century learning in the Sampoerna Schools System. He spearheads initiatives in support of academic planning, curriculum development, institutional compliance, international programs, online learning, and high school and university partnerships for both Sampoerna Academy and Sampoerna University.

Dr. Schott previously served as the Associate Vice Chancellor/Associate Vice President for Outreach and Planning at the University of Houston. He later took on the role of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, at Lone Star College System before joining the Sampoerna Schools System. Dr. Schott received his Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University, and his Masters’s Degree and Ph.D. in History from Louisana State University.

Dr. David Moore

Associate VP for International Education, Broward College

Dr. Moore showed his love for education by starting his academic career as a classroom teacher for social studies back in 1977. He then worked in the college level academic administrative positions for 35 years, including the Director of Admissions and Registrar at Clearwater Christian College for two years and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs for 17 years.  Dr. Moore moved to St. Petersburg College to serve as the Director for Dual Credit and International Studies for five years. He also taught college level history for 25 years at both colleges.

As the Dean of International Education at Broward College, Moore is responsible for the creation and development of international academic affiliations, articulations, and exchanges with colleges and universities, including Sampoerna University in Indonesia.

Dr. Jim Coakley

Associate Dean, College of Business, Oregon State University

  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Oregon State University, Oregon, U.S.

Dr. Jim Coakley currently works as the Associate Dean of Oregon State University. Coakley’s expertise in computer science brought him to the United States Air Force in 1971. Dr. Coakley began as an F-111F Fighter Pilot, developing and implementing the Weapons Delivery Analysis System to track and analyze tactical weapons delivery data. He then climbed his way up to supervising three academic faculties and three support personnels as the Commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Detachment. He also influenced decisions on multi-billion dollar fighter weapon system programs.

He then began his academic career at Oregon State University (OSU) as an Assistant Professor in 1990. In 1996, he became an Associate Professor, developing many programs such as EasyResv (trademark pending), an access-based reservation system to support transient reservations in ports and harbors, and programming support for Dangerous Waters™, recognized as OSU’s first interactive multimedia CD ROM for Sea Grant-related distance education throughout the state and the nation.

Dr. Richard J. Koubek

Executive Vice President and Provost, Lousiana State University

Koubek is now the Executive Vice President & Provost of Louisiana State University. He started his 30-year-long academic career as a faculty member in Wright State University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. Later on, he held many prestigious positions, such as Professor and Chair for the Department of Biomedical, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies for the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Wright State University, and Professor and Head of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State.

His expertise in engineering has gained various awards, from the NASA Group Achievement award, the 2013 Governor’s Technology Award, the “Click-It” Award for Innovative Use of Instructional Technology, to the Pritsker Outstanding Teaching Award at Purdue University.
