Faculty of Education Sampoerna University (FOE-SU) provides the academic and professional development for undergraduate students to become high quality Mathematics and English as a foreign language teacher candidates at all levels of the basic and secondary education system. All of our students complete a core program in Teaching, Learning and Leadership that prepares them to be educational leaders---in classrooms and as school administrators. We further advance our mission through our programs of teaching, school experience, research, and engagement with practitioners, scholars, and institutions in the field of education. All programs take into account global contemporary research and best practices to prepare our graduates to meet the demands of the esteemed profession and to be ready to address challenges in teaching and learning in schools in Indonesia.

As a requirement to graduate from Faculty of Education, senior students have to submit Capstone projects. This project provides students with various learning experiences – obtained through the School Experience Program, the Community Service Program (CSP – KKN in Indonesian)- and the opportunity to integrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired through the coursework. There are three alternative ways by which students can accomplish the project: (1) produce a full thesis report based on an empirical research study;
(2) write a scholarly paper and;
(3) produce a teaching and learning materials (audio visual, video, teaching aids, etc.).

Education:
Dr. Nisa’s interests lie on school improvement and educational opportunities for underprivileged children. Funded by UNESCO-IIEP, she conducted a research on accountability in the education sector in Indonesia and contributed her findings to the 2017 UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report. She has been teaching at Sampoerna University since 2009.
Ms. Deshinta joined Sampoerna University as a mathematics lecturer. Her concern on mathematics education led her to participate in community services, and deliver a training for teachers in collaboration with Microsoft Indonesia. Her paper on teaching geometry using the Van Hiele model has been met with approval at international conferences.
Ms. Vera has been teaching since 1999. She joined and worked on the structuring of the Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) back in 2009, where she chaired the English Language Teaching Department until 2013. Literature and cultural studies are her expertise, and she is unabashed to speak her mind at international conferences.
Before she became a lecturer in 2010, Ms. Maryam Mursadi participated in several research projects with WWF Indonesia and KEHATI Foundation in the area of education for sustainable development. She was also part of the team responsible for Early Grades Reading Assessment in Indonesia in 2012–2013.
Dr. Hatim Gazali is a recipient of research, community service, and non-conventional learning grants from institutions such as SEAMOLEC, Hivos Foundation, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Ministry of Research, Technology & Higher Education. His essays and papers have been published in newspapers and Islamic journals, with multiculturalism and character education as tenets of discussion.
Ms. Dhitta was the Program Director of the Indonesian Teachers Association (IGI). She collaborated with other parties to design and facilitate pre-service and in-service training and workshops for teachers. She also worked with an independent team appointed by the Ministry of Education to suggest revisions for the national mathematics curriculum.
Ms. Desyarti’s interests lie on Mathematics Education and Applied Mathematics. Her research includes applying mathematical models to solve traffic problems, and the use of technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics. She received a research grant from SEAMOLEC in 2012 and presented her paper at the Konferensi Nasional Matematika XVI.
Ms. Susilowaty’s experience as an English examiner for Cambridge International Examinations and a presenter at international festivals have been invaluable. She put them to good use at Sampoerna University, as she has been conducting research on English language teaching and School Experience program (SEP) and presenting her papers at international conferences.
Ms. Nia Yulianti started teaching mathematics in 2010 while pursuing her bachelor’s degree. Her expertise lies on Statistical Data Analysis, Research, and Higher Education. She joined Sampoerna University in 2017 as a mathematics lecturer, preparing students to be educational leaders who are ready to address challenges in schools in Indonesia.

Bachelor of Education in English Language Teaching program is designed to address Indonesia’s need for high quality English teachers with the competencies to teach using 21st Century approaches. This program offers students opportunities to explore contemporary theories and practices underpinning English Language curriculum and instruction and to develop skills in teaching English for different grade-levels of primary and secondary schools. Prospective teachers will have the capacity to utilize technology as a platform in English Language Teaching to engage learners and accommodate different needs.
Bachelor of Education in English Language Teaching program is committed to create new generation of teachers who pursue their careers in wide array of opportunities in the field of English Language Teaching.
They will be able to teach English as a second language at different grade-levels of primary and secondary schools and at different contexts including in formal and non-formal education settings such as in tutoring programs and youth centers. With the ability to use English as the medium of instruction and global perspective of learning, they have significant strengths to teach in international-oriented schools with students from various backgrounds.
The capacity in conducting educational research and developing educational programs will allow the graduates to take part in education development projects and pursue their careers in national and international developmental agencies or non-government organizations.
The Mathematics Education (ME) study program provides undergraduates to become high quality 21st century mathematics teachers who are able to use English as the medium of instruction and to integrate technology to enhance mathematics teaching and learning. This program also equips students with profound mathematical knowledge and skills to enable them to teach mathematics at all levels of the basic and secondary education system. Students have the opportunity to develop their understanding on learners and learning necessary for designing and implementing meaningful mathematics teaching and learning. They are exposed to diverse mathematics curriculums and teaching experiences in several schools in order to be enriched and critical, and get ready in various real class situations.
Students will be trained as reflective practitioners to become lifelong learners. The program is also designed to facilitates aspiring teachers in excelling their leadership to become visionary teacher leaders in schools and society. They are provided by the learning environment that promotes not only integrity, creativity, and critical thinking skills, but also collaborative and entrepreneurship skills necessary for participating in a global community.
