In this Special Guest Talk session, Amanda Wozniak, an Electrical Engineer based in Boston, the United States, flew to Jakarta to share her knowledge and experience with the students of Sampoerna University.
In a session held by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Sampoerna University, at L’Avenue campus, Amanda discussed the theme “Engineering Ratings, De-Ratings and Trade-Offs: How Analysis Is a Crucial Part of Product Design.“ She talked about the importance of carrying out technical analysis to assure the flow of a production.
“In a production process, the problems that emerge are not only limited to electricity or mechanism. There are many other possibilities, for example performance requirements, security regulations, working hours, and costs,” Amanda explained. For this reason, she believes that the future engineers at Sampoerna University will graduate as leading specialists who are capable of analyzing problems and figuring out effective solutions. To make the materials were easy to understand, Amanda, who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the United States, explained her analysis using case studies from various industries.
Amanda also gained experience of working at Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, Harvard University, during 2009-2014, as an Electrical Engineer Staff. She worked together with a number of specialists, among others, biologists and chemists to design and create medical equipments. Previously, Amanda worked as an Application Engineer at semiconductor companies, such as Analog Devices, IBM, and Intel Corporation. Her vast experience allows her to talk about the production process from diverse standpoints. This event was attended not only by students of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, but also students from other faculties, staff, lecturers, and also the vice rector of Sampoerna University, Dr. M.
