In the digital era, YouTube has become one of the canals for self-expression and various video-based content. Without a doubt, YouTube has become a fascinating alternative media for millennials to access entertainment and also watch videos that are informative and straightforward. Based on this trend, Sampoerna University, which proceeds to adapt to technological advancement through the curriculum, held a workshop with the theme “Communication Network Series 2: Video Blogging: Capture Your Idea, Express it to the World”.
In this workshop, Sampoerna University invited Damar Harsanto, who is a/an digital media trainer, journalist, editor, corporate communications specialist, and also blogger, as the speaker. Damar shared tips and tricks on how to create high-quality content with positive values through video blogging, or more popularly known as vlog.
“Despite the widespread presence of viral videos which unfortunately lack educational values for the young generation, I hope students can be smarter in creating vlog content that is not only appealing but also contain positive values”, explained Damar. This starts from a well-thought-out concept to a great script. He also believes there are a number of things which can be further addressed in the production process of vlogs which include the quality of the image and audio. This way the video can get more likes from the audience.
At the end of the workshop session, Damar also gave an example of a video concept which went viral globally, the Mannequin Challenge. This video, which was first popularized in the United States, was impersonated everywhere because the technical preparation is simple. The challenges are also exciting as they are carried out by any group of people, from students, employees, police, to Hollywood stars.
